This is my final project at university. It's by far the most complex animation I made so far. Hope you like it! :)
Description:
The animated film WHITE LIES | GREEN DIES (3:30 min) creates a surreal world, mainly built with white geometric objects. All plants are banned to maintain the sterile yet esthetically appealing look of the environment. Only one individual has a different opinion and wants to save a plant from being destroyed. Therefore this person is imprisoned. After a while in jail the story line takes a turn. What really happens is up to the audience.
Some parallels to paintings by the Belgian artist René Magritte where added throughout the film, as they fit the subject and can make the film more interesting to viewers with an art-historical background.
The project mainly deals with the relationship between industrial cities and nature. It often seems that plants are seen as something annoying that should be destroyed and replaced by concrete or stone rather than something that is necessary for everyone's well-being. But it also touches subjects such as surveillance and the relationship between an individual and the society.
Most of the animation was produced with a classic stop-motion-technique and some parts are computer animated. One of the main focuses of this work was to combine these two techniques and to still get a consistent result.
The work focuses on an esthetically appealing look and feel. The story itself is present but the pictures should still work on their own.
